Urinary Dysfunction
Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence refers to involuntary leaking of urine from your bladder. Some people leak a small amount of urine when they sneeze, laugh, or cough. Others experience a sudden, strong urge to urinate with difficulty making it to the toilet in time.
While many assume they should ‘just do Kegels’ to address incontinence, in some cases Kegels can make your symptoms worse! In addition, research suggests that most people do not do them correctly. Your doctor will assess the underlying cause of your incontinence to determine the right treatment for you.
Urinary Urgency & Frequency
Urinary urgency describes the perceived need to urinate more often than every 2 hours or more than once at night. Urinary urgency refers to the sudden and sometimes uncontrollable urge to urinate, which may cause involuntary loss of urine (urge incontinence). Symptoms can range from mild to severe and for some can lead to a debilitating loss in quality of life.
Along with other contributions, tension of the pelvic floor is a common cause of urgency and frequency. Pelvic physical therapy is very effective in reducing or eliminating these symptoms and restoring proper bladder function.
